Achilles Tendonitis/Ruptures

Achilles tendonitis and ruptures are two distinct yet related conditions affecting the Achilles tendon, which is the strong band of tissue connecting the calf muscles to the heel bone. Achilles tendonitis is often the precursor to a rupture. Tendonitis involves the inflammation and irritation of the Achilles tendon, typically due to overuse, improper footwear, or sudden increases in physical activity. This condition can cause discomfort, pain, and stiffness in the back of the heel. If left untreated, the tendon can weaken over time, increasing the risk of a rupture. An Achilles tendon rupture is a more severe injury where the tendon partially or completely tears. It often presents as a sudden, sharp pain in the calf or heel, making it difficult to walk or stand on tiptoe.
